The New York Giants finished the 2021 season with a pathetic 4 wins. This followed the 2020 season which had the ceiling shattering total of 6 wins….not exactly the record of a team performing well. Thankfully, the poor season led to the removal of both Joe Judge (HC) and Dave Gettleman (GM) and has given the Giants a new start. I am NOT expecting an insane win total this year, but this is a building block year which needs to leave Giants fans confident that 2023 is going to be a strong year where we can get above 500. The NFC East is week, but Philadelphia is getting strong and Dallas is always competitive within the division, so the Giants need to start making progress. The good thing is, it looks like Brian Daboll and Joe Shoen are the men for the job.
With that being said, it’s June and I’m ready to make my early picks for the season. This is the first time I’m picking the games, and I will only update my predictions once just before the season starts, just to account for any injuries. We start with Tennessee.
@ Tennessee (12-5) – Loss
The Giants last won an opening game in 2016. The Titans are a better team, with a proven HC and an excellent run game. I don’t see this being the year we break that streak.
Carolina (5-12) – Win
A nice early win to start the season and get to 500. Carolina are an incomplete team, with a lot of uncertainty around the QB and HC. Their OL is poor, and do not have the skill position players to cause New York an issue.
Dallas (12-5) – Loss
I get very nervous when the Giants play the Cowboys. I hate that team more than any other in the league. The rivalry is strong! Ultimately they are a much better team and will overpower the Giants.
Chicago (6-11) – Win
This will be a tight game. Justin Fields is still unproven, they have a new HC and are just a stagnant team. I feel the Giants can steal a win
@ Green Bay (13-4) (London) – Loss
I plan to be at this game if I can get tickets. I have never seen the Giants live, and if I do, I expect it to be a loss. This team is not a Superbowl contender for me anymore, but they are a sure-fire playoff team that will outclass the Giants in every way.
Baltimore (8-9) – Loss
The masters of the running game led by an MVP QB in Lamar will make mince-meat of the Giants I think. This could be a 42-16 type of loss I fear.
@ Jacksonville (3-14) – Win
I bloody hope we can win this game otherwise my wife will retain the bragging rights over me. They are fully rebuilding and although they have a QB I would die for, are not a good team as of yet. Scrappy win for the Giants I reckon.
@ Seattle (7-10) – Win
This time last year I would never have said a win, but they traded away their Hall of Game QB in Russel Wilson and have more questions around that position than a Covid Quiz. A good game, and a win I am hoping.
BYE – Going in to the bye 4-4 would be a very strong start!
Houston (4-13) – Win
Surely not, the Giants go above 500 for the first time in an eternity? If all goes well, this is very realistic. Daboll has the ability to unlock the offence, and with that we should be able to beat the teams that aren’t complete, and the Texans are certainly one of those.
Detroit (3-13-1) – Win
Playoffs here we come! A sixth win at this early stage in the season would be a very good message to fans that this team is on the right track. Jones may not be the long term guy, but he could outbattle a poor Detroit team.
@ Dallas (12-5) – Loss
Dallas completes the sweep of the Giants. Too strong on offence and by this point, injuries will be inevitable for this Giants team so chances of scraping a victory will be minimised.
Washington (7-10) – Win
I don’t know what the Commanders are going to look like this year, but we always play well against them, and this one is at home. Carson Wentz is far from a complete QB, and hopefully some momentum from the season will get us a win.
Philadelphia (9-8) – Loss
I think Philli are too good this year. Hurtz is a good QB and they had a very good off season adding some weapons and depth. Even at home I don’t think we win this game.
@ Washington (7-10) – Loss
Not much logic behind this other than I gave us the win at home, so I’m going to do the same for them.
@ Minnesota (8-9) – Loss
Kirk Cousins is a good QB, and does what he needs to do to win. The Vikings are not a great team, and the Giants will go in to this thinking they could win it, but I just think momentum will be gone, injuries will have taken over and we won’t have enough to get the win.
Indianapolis (9-8) – Loss
This team is too good, and with Matty Ice at QB, although not the same Matt as the MVP year, he does enough to win against bad teams. A tough loss for the Giants here.
@ Philadelphia (9-8) – Loss
A close game here, but the Eagles will be fighting for play-off contention and will be going hard! Another scrappy game and a disappointing loss to finish the season.
So there we have it, the Giants finish the 2022 season 7-10 record, showing some progress, but a tough 5 game losing streak to finish the year, which will hopefully put the final nail in the coffin of Daniel Jones’s tenure as the Giants QB, solidifying the Giants requirement to go and get a QB either in Free Agency or the Draft. Let’s see if this is how it pans out – strongly unlikely!!!
